Here you have some strategies on how to shine in a video interview and get one step closer to landing the job you want. Stay tuned!

1. Do Your Research

Do your research on the company and come up with questions that will show off your knowledge and enthusiasm for the role. Be prepared to show your passion and conviction for their company and the products/services they sell!! They are wanting to hire true believers, so prove to them that you are one!!

2. Come Prepared to Show your Sales Skills

Pay attention to this video interview tip! When you can show your enthusiasm, conviction, and excitement for a company and its products, you set yourself apart from any other candidate. How do you approach this in an interview? Prepare to explain why you want to represent their company. Demonstrate your enthusiasm and explain what motivates you to succeed. Why are you the best candidate for the job? What unique skills or experience do you bring to the table? If you can answer these questions convincingly and confidently, you’ll be one step closer to landing your dream job!

3. Get the Right Online Interview Equipment

To have a successful online interview, you will need the right equipment. Make sure you have a laptop (or desktop computer) with a camera, a good internet connection, headphones with a built-in microphone, great lighting, and a quiet space. Test your audio and video 10-15 minutes before the interview and make sure you are not sitting in front of a window!

4. Dress Code: The Fashion Video Interview Tip

When you have a video interview, dress like you would for an in-person interview. You might also want to research what is appropriate for the company’s culture. For example, a more corporate company might have a different dress code than a startup.

5. Online Interview Body Language

This video interview tip is important! During your online interview, you can make yourself more comfortable by sitting up straight, keeping your feet flat on the floor, and looking into the camera. (Not at the people on the screen) You should also nod and smile to show that you are listening and fully understanding what the interviewer is saying. Keep your hands relaxed in your lap or on the desk rather than fidgeting with objects in front of you.

6. Practice Makes Perfect

The more you practice answering questions on video, the more comfortable you will feel when doing the real interview. Anticipate the type of questions you will be asked and practice answering them in front of a camera. (Remember, since you are not in person, you need to “Amp” up your enthusiasm”. A great baseline is to match their energy and then be 20% more passionate than them!)

7. Troubleshooting Your Online Interview

Although technology can fail at any time, being prepared for any scenario can help you feel more confident and relaxed during your video call. Have your phone or another device with internet access and your Zoom application in case your computer or internet goes down.

8. You Own It!

You’re a Warrior, and Warriors always find a way to win. Prepare well, relax, get enough sleep, and exercise beforehand to raise your energy level. Make sure to lead the conversation and DO NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO LEAD YOU! They expect you to sell, so do what you were destined to do and SELL THEM!
